Below is the raw, unedited, heart-wrenching story about a young woman who suffered with undiagnosed vertigo until she finally met the right doctor! However, we are not 100% sure if what she had in the beginning was BPPV, but, from her symptoms, we are quite sure that she developed PPPD at some point.
There are some truly valuable lessons to be learned from this story. Lessons about advocacy, vestibular rehabilitation, counseling, family and friends, self-care... and hope, to share but a few!
A note from our expert: Feeling dismissed in an underlying vestibular diagnosis as "just anxiety" creates more anxiety! The key message in this story is that you may very well have an underlying vestibular disorder and, to find out for sure, you must see a professional who specializes in dizziness and balance disorders. Having the proper treatment for both the vestibular disorder and the anxiety is one's best bet at improving!
